Life in Charlotte
Nicknamed the Queen City, Charlotte was named in honor of the German Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, who had become the Queen Consort of Great Britain and Ireland in 1761, seven years before the town’s incorporation. It was also nicknamed The Hornet’s Nest during the American Revolutionary War, when British commander General Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess Cornwallis occupied the city but was driven out by hostile residents.
Local leaders came together in 1775 and signed the Mecklenburg Resolves, more popularly known as the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, making it one of the first of such declarations that eventually led to the American Revolution. May 20, the traditional date of the signing of the declaration, is celebrated annually in Charlotte as “MecDec”, with musket and cannon fire by reenactors in Independence Square.
Today, Charlotte is a major city and commercial hub in North Carolina. Its modern city center (Uptown) is home to the Levine Museum of the New South, which explores post–Civil War history in the South, and hands-on science displays at Discovery Place. Uptown is also home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which celebrates the sport of auto racing through interactive exhibits and films.
“I highly recommend Real Property Management Value, and Gene Shelley specifically, for your property management needs. He is knowledgeable about real estate laws and regulations, very skilled at understanding construction installation and repair issues, and excellent at finding suitable clients as tenants. He is very pleasant and cooperative to work with and will often go the extra mile to solve a problem. Additionally, he has proved very trustworthy and reliable–and maintains transparency in all record-keeping. As an absentee property owner, I feel very confident having Gene Shelley manage my properties.”
“We always had problems with our previous property manager for years and was thinking of selling our out-of-state rental until we found Gene Shelley. He is handy, reliable, and it makes you feel like you have a trusted family member taking care of your property.”
